Choose the blues!

Sunday, October 14th, 2012

Ped fans, sorry to leave you hanging! We meant to give you another color infusion much sooner, but this, that, and the other thing kept us from it. Nevertheless, it’s never too late to sing the BLUESDefinitely one of the “it” colors, blue comes in myriad shades this fall. Let’s explore, shall we?

If anyone knows a thing or two about color, it’s Chie Mihara! Check out her blue-licious Zuli heeled oxford:

The platform may be ’70s retro, but the styling is utterly modern. The Zuli‘s combination of matte black leather (love the perforated edges!!!) and cobalt blue suede is mesmerizing!

Need something a little more conservative (but not too) for the office? Cydwoq’s Trasmit is just the semi-rebellious ticket:

How cool is this lake-blue pump? Sure, it’s “lady” enough to wear with jacket and skirt, but that faux croc toe let’s everyone know you’re ready to take a bite out of them with your style!

If you like that particular shade of blue but want something casual, consider lacing up the Cydwoq Display:

Cydwoq remakes the oxford in a new way, with angled edges and a squared-off toe! And the lake-blue leather once again looks luscious!

Cydwoq takes blue into boot territory with the terrific Statue:

The way the design shows off the natural edge along the exposed seams, in contrast with the Statue‘s inky blue leather, is stunning! What a rock star—this low boot will have people asking for your autograph!

Natural-edged seams also amp up  the charm of Trippen’s California bootie:

The tumbled leather of this back-laced lovely is sooooo soft, and the petrol hue is a muted teal blue. Fun, funky, and comfortable—Trippen does it again! Swing that fringe!

Another blue boot that will be your true-blue friend forever is Fiorentini + Baker’s Emmy:

As many of you have discovered, the quality of Fiorentini + Baker’s craftsmanship make their boots worth every penny! We particularly love how the Emmy‘s tough-girl design looks in this romantic Blue Moon color—as pretty as a night sky!

But maybe buckles, laces, and zippers are not what you have in mind; all you want is an easy slip-on in a cool color. Behold the Vialis Kate!

A clog unlike any other you’ll encounter—the leather-lined wool felt will bring the house down with its rich petrol color! But the Kate‘s beauty is more than skin deep; it also feels oh-so comfortable on, with a curved sole designed to roll with the motion of your stride!

Our last blue indulgence doesn’t quite follow the rules, but it’s just so cool we can’t resist including it! Take a gander at Trippen’s Treasure:

This brown boot gets its high-voltage “wow’ from its electric-blue edges! The exposed seams open and close to flow over the boot in wavy rivulets! Beyond gorgeous! When you want to wear a show stopper, your fortune lies in the Treasure!

So many blue-tastic choices—luckily, every option is a winner! Who knew having the blues could be so much fun?

Boot booty, Part 5: Two for the high road!

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

Today we complete our transect through the boot paradise that is Ped. We wind things up on a high note with a duo of tall boots!

Fiorentini + Baker rises above the rest when it comes to knee-high boots. The Emma embodies why:

Streamlined and sophisticated, the Emma is one long stretch of luxurious Italian leather, punctuated perfectly by lacing at the top of the back (talk about form meeting function)! The Italian craftsmanship is exquisite. The comfort is divine. And the look is to die for! We are wild about the Emma in the new elmo/dark grey color shown, but it also comes in dark brown and black.

Hankering to go even higher? Fiorentini + Baker’s Edel is the tallest boot we carry:

F+B’s interpretation of the traditional riding boot is a knockout, featuring a super-supple unlined leather shaft that rises a statuesque 17″. Pull it up or let it slouch a bit, the choice is yours—as is whether to go for the Edel in black (pictured) or dark brown.

And so we come to the end of our boot-a-licious feast. Did you get enough? Are you full? If not, there are even more boots to tempt you at Ped’s main site. Whatever height and style you choose, you’re going to look sensational this fall (and next fall and the fall after that…)!

Boot booty, Part 4: Mid-calf marvels!

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Ped fans, we’re gradually inching our way up the leg in our exploration of all things boot and beautiful! Today, we sample variations of a perennial favorite, the mid-calf boot. Neither short nor tall, like all good things (including porridge at the three bears’ house), it’s just right! Let’s take a look:

Cydwoq has elevated designing mid-calf boots into an artform! Truly, it’s their forte, as evidenced by the new Surgeon Boot:

The pewter leather treatment is stunning, especially in contrast with the cage-like overlay of matte brown (which you may remember from the Cydwoq Artisan, which we showed you a few days ago). But what makes Cydwoq mid-calf boots especially fantastic is the dip in back that comfortably accommodates a range of calf sizes!

Another Cydwoq boot that zips up the back is the traffic-stopping Bend:

The crimson underside of the luxe black leather is beyond juicy! If you want to start conversations everywhere you go, zip up the Bend and get people talking!

Looking for something a little more girly? Then check out the most sensational boot of the season, Cydwoq’s Rescue Boot:

If you’ve seen steampunk fashion, which melds 19th century romanticism with science-fiction fantasies of the future (think Jules Verne), you know what a dream come true the Rescue is! From the metallic-hued heel and bronze undertones of the burnout paisley pattern to the scalloped top and lace-up front, this boot is smashing!

Finally, to put an exclamation point on this mid-calf medley, we give you the most popular Ped boot ever—a classic that looks perpetually modern—the Fiorentini + Baker Eternity Boot:

Like the Cydwoq boots above, the Eternity accommodates almost any calf size, thanks to its two-part shaft construction and trio of adjustable buckles. We could go on and on about the quality of the Italian craftsmanship, but the bottom line is this boot looks kickass! Choose either dark brown (pictured) or black leather, or opt for grey suede—every version is awesome!

As you can see, half-calf is where it’s at!

We still have one more stop, a few inches higher, before we complete our foray through Ped’s fabulous boots. Stay tuned for tall boots tomorrow!

(By the way, this week’s Sweet Treat is a rockin’ boot made for going from summer to fall: Trippen’s Agave! Just click “be sweet to your feet” in the upper right corner of any Ped page to reach the Agave with the magic code that will bring 20% off at checkout!)

Boot booty, Part 3: The in-between scene

Sunday, September 2nd, 2012

Knee-high, mid-calf, and ankle—those were the three basic boot heights for what seemed like forever. But a couple years ago, three newcomers jumped in to jazz up the mix: shootie, low, and over-the-knee. The low boot, with a shaft falling somewhere between ankle and mid-calf height, quickly became a fan favorite with its rock ‘n’ roll vibe! Let’s take a look at some of Ped’s low-boot hotties:

If you want a boot unlike any other on the street, Argila’s Celia is guaranteed to please:

The seaming and the leather’s pinked edges make this boot a head-turner! We also like the effect of the unexpectedly demure ankle strap, and let’s not forget the wooden wedge! All the parts are beautiful, but the sum is even better!

Another boot that puts a lot of details to good use is the new Cydwoq Pilot:

This bad grrl of a combat boot is ready to wage war on the battlefield of style! In its rock ‘n’ roll arsenal: a sexy zipper up the back, grommeted lacing in front, and two kickass buckles at the top!

Too many bells and whistles? Perhaps the new Cydwoq Statue is more along the line of what you have in mind:

The way those wizards at Cydwoq cut leather is truly a thing of beauty! We particularly love the contrast of the natural edge along the exposed seams with the blue of the Pilot‘s luxe leather!

Blue is one of the IT colors this season, but color in general is big on the streets. If you’re ready to do hue, consider lacing up the Trippen Fountain:

Fun and funky, this boot is guaranteed to steal the scene wherever you walk—and you can walk anywhere, thanks to Trippen’s famously comfortable t-shaped rubber wedge! We love the Fountain in spring green, which looks great strolling through the fall leaves, but this low-boot lovely also comes in a washed blue!

As always, there are more low boots to love at Ped’s main site. (Also, as always, Fiorentini + Baker offers some of the best, like the ever-popular Emmy and versatile Ella.)

Stay tuned—in our next installment we’re booting it up to mid-calf!

Boot booty, Part 1: Go low!

Thursday, August 30th, 2012

The variety of boots this fall is virtually endless: flats, heels, wedges, lace-ups, buckle-straps, laceless, rugged, girly, rock ‘n’ roll, etc. Every woman can find one (or two or three) she wants, but wading through all the options can take quite a while.

So to make browsing more bite-sized, we’ve decided to offer several quick samplers of Ped’s boots, arranged by height. Every blog post for the next few days will be like a tasting menu—or boot tapas, if you will! Enjoy! It’s all delicious!

Today’s installment focuses on ankle boots that are barely boots (they just made the height requirement to get on the coaster). Sometimes called “shooties” because they walk the fine line between shoes and booties, these designs may have short shafts, but they’re long on style!

Since we were singing the praises of Pep Monjo yesterday, let’s start with a sweetheart from the company he founded, the Argila Anna:

Like a femmed-up version of a motorcycle boot, the Anna charms with a perforated design over the toe and a supple front, pinked at the top and cinched into a loose ruffle by the buckle strap. Pretty and practical, this little boot goes with everything!

Another versatile beauty is Coclico’s Rilke:

We love the tie and tongue at the back—it’s always fun to give those behind you something to see! Plus, the Rilke is made of the softest grey suede imaginable!

Looking for something with a little more va-va-va voom? See what you think of Cydwoq’s Elevate:

This is one of our favorite new styles from Rafi and Ari at Cydwoq! The serpentine curves and mix of leathers is simply spectacular! Choose from either brown and silvery faux croc (pictured) or black and burnout paisley pony (perfect for you steampunk lovers).

Nice, you say, but you want a boot with “go big or go home” boldness! Well, Cydwoq’s Indies has that and then some:

Rock ‘n’roll, sister! Cydwoq’s riveted red lace-up will have everyone wishing they were in your boots!

These are just a few of the low-riding lovelies over at Ped’s main site. (For instance, we know we just showed you the Fiorentini + Baker Celia a few days ago, but it really is worth oohing and aahing over again!)

Be sure to come back tomorrow when we take things up an inch or two!
