Fully woolly

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

With all the spring items arriving at the Ped warehouse, it’s easy to get lost in daydreams about green grass and fresh flowers. But in reality, we know it’s still frosty where many Ped fans live. And when we get chilly, there’s only one thing to do: go woolly!

Wool is truly a wonder fiber—not only does it “breathe” and resist odor, but it also stays warm even when wet. Let’s see a hi-tech synthetic manage all that! Plus, fine wool just feels so good!

Here are a few of Ped’s favorite ways to cozy up against the cold and still stay stylish!

When we think of woolen beauty, we instantly think of the creations of Parisian textile artist Sophie Digard!

Words simply cannot express how gorgeous this Diamond Scarf is! Be sure to use Ped’s “zoom” tool to check out the dazzling chevron pattern framing each of this scarf’s colorful crocheted diamonds.

We especially love it when Sophie gets playful with mixing textiles and adding dimensional elements! How fantastic is this Biscuit Pop Scarf?

Sophie calls the velvet and crocheted baubles at the center of each woolly square “biscuits”—all we know is they are deliciously fun! And like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike!

(Psst, even better, Sophie Digard’s Biscuit Pop Scarf just happens to be this week’s “sweet treat”! Simply click “be sweet to your feet” at the top of any Ped page—including this one—to be transported to the Biscuit Pop Scarf with the magic code that will garner a delightful 20% off when entered at checkout.)

Another of our favorite woolen wonders this season is Epice’s luxurious Chevron Scarf:

Exquisitely loomed from wool and cashmere, this scarf is wide enough to wear as a shawl if your shoulders need a little extra warmth. The colors are luscious, and the hand of this beauty is so, so, so soft!

Another cashmere delight is Mia Zia’s Barcelona Cashmere Scarf:

You won’t want to stop touching this scarf! And because it’s monochromatic, each color option will go with almost any outfit. Plus, Mia Zia’s signature tassels at the corner add spice and whimsy!

Maybe it’s your hands you want to keep toasty! In that case, why not slip them into Antipast’s Waterdrop Gloves?

You better keep these cuties on, though, because they’re so fun sticky fingers just might try to snag them! (Incidentally, they also come in khaki.)

Speaking of fingers, it’s always nice to have the option of keeping them free. Check out these Antipast wool and alpaca mittens that offer the best of both worlds:

Keep your digits nice and cozy until you need them to dial or deal with keys—at which point, simply undo the etched button on the back of each mitten and let your fingers out to play!

Here at Ped HQ, we’re skirt-loving gals, so when the temperature dips, we get out the tights!

Aren’t these Antipast Quilted Stripe Tights FUN? They make staying warm in winter less of a chore and more of a treat! (And, needless to say, there are also Antipast wool socks to rock!)

Because we’re making space for all the warm-weather goods that are arriving daily, many of the above wool lovelies and lots of others over at the main Ped site are currently on sale! So, cozying up to wool at Ped won’t ice your bank account!

It’s bloomin’ winter!

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Everyone at Ped HQ is glad the days are finally growing longer here in the northern hemisphere, but it will still be a while before green leaves deck the bare-limbed trees. Which is why we love anything and everything floral this time of year! A few blossoms here and there remind us that, no matter how gray the wintry day, spring is not too far off.

So, even when there’s snow, here are a few ways to still have your garden grow.

Swiss textile artist Karin Wagner understands the power of the flower, and her hand-felted accessories are guaranteed to make you (and everyone around you) smile!

What could be more welcome than Karin’s cheerful Daffodil Ring on an icy day? Having a yellow flower blooming on your hand is just the tonic for the mid-winter blues!

If  rings are not your thing, you can always pin a bold flower, like this Edelweiss Brooch, to your winter coat:

What a way to start a conversation! Get ready to hear the following over and over: “I love your pin! Can I ask where you got it?”

Sophie Digard, that Parisian queen of crochet, has also created a wonderful sprig of flowers to enliven your woolen sweaters:

We love Sophie’s whimsy in including a striped linen blossom in her Three Flower Brooch.

Several of Sophie Digard’s cozy scarves are also abloom with flowers!

The tufted velvet centers of the one-of-a-kind blossoms strewn across this smokey lavender wool Wildflower Scarf are so charming. (This beauty is also available in a sassafras green linen version).

Another wonderful floral scarf is Epice’s Lake Como Scarf:

The orange border on this finely loomed wool wonder gives it such zest, plus the Lake Como Scarf is wide enough that you can wear it as a shawl—a garden for your shoulders!

Or you could let Antipast’s flower-decked socks sprout on your legs!

These over-the-knee Source of the Earth cuties would look terrific with a short skirt and a pair of oxfords or ankle boots! They’re guaranteed to put a springy spring in your step!

Of course, when I think of fun flowers, my mind always turns to Pepita’s Florinda necklace:

My love affair with Pepita’s fantastic jewelry began with this necklace. As soon as I tried it on, it had to be mine! I still smile every time I wear it (which is often)!

So, don’t let winter’s barren landscape get you down—plant your own garden of style and let the sunshine in!

(And, hey, if you’re chilly, have you checked out this week’s “sweet treat”? It’s Epice’s sinfully soft Chevron Scarf loomed from cashmere and wool! Mmmmm! Just click “be sweet to your feet” in the upper right corner of any Ped page to land at the Chevron Scarf with the magic code that will bring you a 20% discount when entered in the box at checkout. De-lish!)

Little luxuries to brighten up life!

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

If you’re like me, Ped fans, when the days grow short and the temperature dips, my spirit sometimes needs an extra boost. And if that thing that recharges my emotional battery staves off the chill outside, too, then all the better!

Fortunately, we thought ahead here at Ped HQ to make sure we’d have some extra-special treasures arriving in the warehouse to brighten your grey, wintry days. (Of course, they’re still fun when the sun’s out!) Behold a small sampling of delightful new things just in from Antipast, Epice, and Sophie Digard!

The mother and daughter team, Emiko and Junko, who are the design geniuses behind Japan’s Antipast, know a thing or two about keeping things fun while keeping things cozy. Their socks are always the cutest, softest, and toastiest! Case in point, the new Fun Fan Socks:

The winter blues don’t stand a chance when you’re wearing flowery fans on your ankles! We love these trouser-length sweeties, but we also have a knee-high version!

Speaking of knee highs, our favorite tall sock from Antipast this season is the Airship Knee High:

Need to take a break from daily grind?  Just look down at your legs and let your mind float away on a hot-air balloon!

Of course, Antipast’s loveliness extends beyond just socks. They also make scarves, arm warmers, and gloves.

How beautiful are these Rose Gloves? Everybody at Ped HQ practically fainted when we took them out of the box—they’re just the thing to pretty up a slushy day!

Another way to bring colorful flowers into wintry weather is with a beautiful scarf from Paris’s own Sophie Digard.

We’re especially crazy about this new Freesia Scarf. Like a soft bed of blossoms, this scarf will make you feel wonderful every time you wind it around your neck.

If you prefer something more abstract, check out Sophie’s eye-opening Biscuit Pop Scarf:

What an amazing amount of labor goes into this wearable work of art! You’re guaranteed to turn every head on the street!

We also just received Sophie’s ever-popular Flower Petal Necklace in rich autumn colors that will look spectacular with your LBD at holiday parties!

A mix of velvet and crochet, this necklace simply could not be any prettier! And did you know that the two sides of each flower are different and allow you to spin and slide them on their cord to create endless variations? So fun!

Maybe you’re looking for something that can work both as a scarf and as a shawl, in which case, Epice has an expanse of luxury with your name on it!

Everyone at Ped loves stripes, stripes, and more stripes, so this finely loomed wool Morocco Scarf has us swooning!

And if you want to up the luxe ante, nothing does that like cashmere! Epice’s wool and cashmere Chevron Scarf is like a soft and cozy piece of heaven!

Wrap this beauty around your shoulders and just say, “Aaaahhhh!” You might even start to wish it was winter all the time.

These things are just a few of the wonders in the treasure trove that awaits you at Ped’s main site! On a cold and dark day, a little indulgence can go a long way.

(And speaking of wonderful indulgences, don’t forget to check out this week’s “sweet treat” because it’s especially delicious: Chie Mihara’s Jupi! Get the sexy schoolgirl look for 20% off by clicking “be sweet to your feet” at the top of any Ped page, which will whisk you to the Jupi and the magic code for you to enter at checkout! Yum!)

Epice makes necking so spicy!

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Not that kind of necking—we’re talking scarves, beautiful, colorful, soft, and light-as-a-feather scarves from Epice! They’re the latest additions to the Ped lineup!

French for “spice,” Epice is the creation of Danish designers Bess Neilsen and Jan Machenhauer, who launched their artistic textile line in France in 1999. The pair collaborate with master weavers in India to translate their vibrant, complexly patterned designs into wearable expanses of soft cotton and silk. Exquisite to touch, Epice scarves feel wonderful wound around your neck, but they’re also wide enough to wear as shawls—perfect when you need a little something on a summer evening.

See for yourself:

I personally own Epice’s Garden Party scarf, and I wear it all the time!!!

The colors of this all-cotton, floral delight will instantly lift your spirits!

At Ped HQ, we have a well-known weakness for stripes and dots, so we were down for the count when we discovered these next two treasures. First, representing the stripe camp, the appropriately named Stripe Party scarf:

Woven from cotton with just a touch of silk, this gorgeous scarf has a nautical air (think French sailor’s shirt) without any yacht-club stuffiness. We love Epice’s playful juxtaposition of the various colors!

And on the dotty side of things, we have the Dot-a-licious scarf:

This wonderful all-cotton number makes us think of dominoes (preferably played on the porch with a tall glass of iced tea).

Dots and stripes also jazz up the dazzling pattern of the Epice Festival scarf (use the “zoom” at the Ped site to see what we mean):

If you’re a regular reader, you’ve probably guessed this cotton and silk beauty is Laura’s favorite—orange and turquoise have her heart! We agree; the Festival scarf is worth celebrating!

So why let your neck go naked this summer when you can wrap it up with a sassy and soft Epice scarf? Spice is nice!

(Just fyi, if you haven’t already discovered it, this week’s “sweet treat” is Cydwoq’s Mandarine sandal! Just click “be sweet to your feet” at the top of this or any other Ped page to reach the Mandarine with its 20% off discount code!)
